I give you WYSIWYG!!

Prepping for an upcoming tournament with some buddies. TECHNICALLY they want you to play WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get.) They want people to be playing the appropriate models, and have them kitted out the way you have them built on paper. I'm sure there's a little room for slack, but heck, this way I get a cool looking totally unique/custom mini!

I started out with a vanilla Big Mek with Kustom Force Field. Here's a pic from GW to show how it looks straight out of the box (some assembly required.) This obviously was the best choice as a launching pad for my boss. Mine however has a few other things not shown on this model. Those being a power klaw, and a boss pole. I decided to "borrow" the power klaw from a kommando nob (as any good mek would do!) And made a custom boss pole, modeled after another of GW's big mek models.
I started by cleaning up all the various bits and pieces to prep the model for assembly, and glued his KFF on.

I decided to try pinning the different pieces together on this model. Basically, you drill holes in the two adjoining pieces, and use some type of wire to join them together. This provides a much stronger joint once the glue dries.

After that, I moved on to his right arm. This is actually the main reason why I decided to pin the parts together. You can see in the pic from GW above, that his right arm is holding some type of control, most likely for the KFF. Well to give him the PK, that had to go bye-bye. Unfortunately, the PK didn't quite line up with his arm. This is the beauty of pining. You can position the joint however you want, and fill the rest in later with green stuff.

And here is the final result with PK attached.

Not too shabby eh? It was also at this point I decided to "borrow" some more parts from my poor kommando nob. I think his head looks much cooler than the mek's. He's got a cigar hangin out of his mouth, and the goggles really help him looky propa meky.

At this point, the only thing left was the boss pole! Like I said earlier, I really liked the look of the boss pole on the other GW model, so I decided to try to reproduce it out of styrene. Over all, I'm very happy with how well it turned out! It's three layers of styrene, with the pole coming from some electrical wire I had lying around.

Currently none of the joints are actually glued, so that's the next step. After that it's finishing up his arm with some green stuff, then on to painting! I'm very excited to finish this guy! Each model my painting gets a little better, and a little more detailed. I can't wait to see how this guy turns out!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://krumpinhumies.blogspot.com/2009/09/they-want-wysiwyg-i-give-you-wysiwyg.html' title='They want WYSIWYG? It's most likely going to be based around Warhammer 40K and photography.

I decided to try to set up a light box in the garage tonight and take some pics. I spent a couple of hours tweeking settings on my camera and came up with a halfway respectable image at the end. I have some ideas on how to make it better, but it's late and I'm tired. Anywho, here's a sample of what I got tonight.
